How to get more FPS in Roblox
Roblox stops at 60 FPS unless you change it, even on a 144 Hz or 240 Hz monitor. Raising that cap is the biggest free win. Then lower the graphics a little and fix Windows, your driver and your monitor.
- Raise Maximum Frame Rate in Roblox’s Settings (it starts at 60).
- Play in fullscreen (F11).
- Set Graphics Mode to Manual and lower Graphics Quality a few steps.
- Set Windows power mode to Best performance.
- Plug your monitor into the graphics card, not the motherboard.
Measure first
Press Shift + F5 in a game to show Roblox’s stats, including your FPS. On some PCs it’s Ctrl + Shift + F5 instead. Check your FPS in the same place before and after each change, so you know what actually helped.
1. Raise Roblox’s FPS cap
Press Esc, open Settings and find Maximum Frame Rate. The choices are:
| Choice | What it means |
|---|---|
| Default | 60 FPSThis is what everyone starts on. |
| 60 | 60 FPSFor 60 Hz monitors. |
| 120 | 120 FPS |
| 144 | 144 FPSFor 144 Hz monitors. |
| 240 | 240 FPSThe most Roblox allows. |
Pick the one that matches your monitor’s refresh rate, or the next one up. For a 165 Hz or 180 Hz monitor, that’s 240. Roblox says 240 is the top because its physics runs 240 times a second.
Not sure what your monitor can do? It’s in Settings > System > Display > Advanced display, next to Choose a refresh rate.
2. What happened to FPS unlockers
On 29 September 2025 Roblox started ignoring Fast Flags that aren’t on its approved list. The flag FPS unlockers used to push past the cap isn’t on that list, so those tricks don’t do anything any more. Roblox’s own Maximum Frame Rate setting is the way to go now, and 240 is the most you can get.
Be careful with “FPS unlocker” downloads from YouTube or Discord. At best they do nothing now. At worst they’re something you don’t want on your PC.
3. Roblox’s graphics settings
- Fullscreen: press F11 or turn on Fullscreen in Settings. A full screen game usually runs smoother than a window.
- Graphics Mode: set it to Manual, then lower Graphics Quality one or two steps at a time until your FPS stays near your cap. Every Roblox experience is built differently, so a busy one may need a lower setting than a simple obby.
4. Windows settings
- Game Mode on: Settings > Gaming > Game Mode. It tells Windows to put your game first.
- Power mode: Settings > System > Power & battery > Power mode > Best performance. On a laptop, plug in the charger too.
- Background recording off: Settings > Gaming > Captures, then turn off Record what happened.
- Startup apps: Settings > Apps > Startup. Turn off anything you don’t need running all the time.
- Laptops with two graphics chips: Settings > System > Display > Graphics, add Roblox and choose High performance. Roblox moves to a new folder every time it updates, and Windows keeps this choice per folder, so check it again after an update.
Before you play, close your browser and anything downloading. Every app you leave open takes a little processor time and memory from the game.
5. Your graphics driver
Get the newest driver straight from the company that made your graphics card: the NVIDIA App, AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition or Intel’s graphics software. The driver Windows Update installs is often old.
6. Your monitor and cable
- Desktop PC? Plug your monitor into the graphics card’s ports, usually lower down on the back of the PC. The ports higher up belong to the motherboard and use the processor’s much weaker graphics instead.
- Refresh rate: Settings > System > Display > Advanced display > Choose a refresh rate. Pick the highest number. Lots of 144 Hz monitors run at 60 Hz until you change this, and then a 240 FPS cap is wasted.
- Cable: use DisplayPort or the cable that came with the monitor. Some older HDMI cables can’t do more than 60 Hz.
7. Heat and dust
A PC that gets too hot slows itself down to protect itself. If your FPS starts high and drops after 10 or 20 minutes, clean the dust out of the fans and keep the vents clear. Laptops need a hard, flat surface, not a bed.
Rather do it in one click?
Winsmate Tweaks finds Roblox on its Games page and raises its FPS cap to 120, 144 or 240 in one click, and tells you which one suits your monitor. Close Roblox first, because Roblox saves its settings when it closes. Then one button switches on the Windows settings that get you more FPS, less input lag and steadier ping, in Roblox and every other game.
Winsmate saves your old settings before it changes anything, so one button puts everything back.
